The Resurrection Symphony

Performed by the Jefferson Symphony Orchestra

and The Evergreen Chorale

Conducted by Dr. Bill Morse

Choir Master - Christine Gaudreau

The Evergreen Chorale teams up again with the acclaimed Jefferson Symphony Orchestra in a concert featuring Gustav Mahler's Symphony #2.  Mahler (1860 – 1911) was a late-Romantic Austrian-Bohemian composer and one of the leading conductors of his generation.  After 1945 he became one of the most frequently performed and recorded of all composers, a position he has sustained into the 21st century.

Mahler's Symphony # 2  - nick-named the Resurrection Symphony - is among his most popular works.  Scored for large symphony orchestra, soprano and alto solos and a massed chorus, this triumphant and upllifting work compares to Beethoven's 9th. It includes a much longer last movement with the addition of a choir.  The beautiful lyrics express Mahler's views of redemption and resurrection.

There is only one opportunity to hear this amazing masterwork, on May 6, 2012, at 3:00 pm at the Green Center, Colorado School of Mines, in Golden.  Get your tickets early!
